Anyway, loved all of Alanna’s character building. The other books did a great job of building her skills and badassery, but we got to see more personal growth here I feel. Also teacher Alanna!!!! How great!!
I liked that the Bahzir are shown to be more democratic than Tortall or any other region we’ve seen, as in everyone had a right to speak out (men anyway) and there are no high court or separate classes for the most part. Alanna’s self discovery and decision not to get married for good reasons was so important for a children/young-adult fantasy book oh my god. The general discussion of men and women and the very blurable lines between the two was just so good all together.
